General Rules

      • A minimum of 8 participants / teams is required for the event to run.
      • All matches are played in match play format.
      • RCGA Rules of Golf and its Decisions and, where applicable, Local Rules and Conditions, shall govern all play. Local Rule for the drop zone on #4 and #14 are not in use.
      • Any decision by the Match Play Chairman in any matter shall be final.

Format

      • Participants/teams will be divided into groups of 4 or less (depending on number of registrants)
NOTE: Format may change based on number of registrants.
      • During group play, participants/teams play 18-hole matches against each of the other participants/teams in their group.
      • Matches are played to a conclusion. Matches tied after 18 holes are extended until there is a winner. (Handicap matches continue to use Handicaps as given)
      • Points awarded to participants/teams based on the results of each match are as follows:
        • Winner – 1 point
        • Loser – 0 points
      • Tie breakers:
        • 2 participants/teams tied – Head-to-Head: The winner of the match between the tied players advances.
        • 3 participants/teams tied – Net Hole Differential: Total holes won minus total holes lost in all matches.
        • If still tied – Draw from a hat.
      • Winner of each group advances to bracket play based on remaining participants/teams.
      • Both participants/teams are encouraged to instigate the contact for arranging the match. Play on the earliest and most opportune day for BOTH participants/teams in encouraged. Please inform the Pro Shop staff when booking a tee time that it is a Match Play event.
      • It is recommended that only the players participating in the match be in the group. If both participants agree, other players may play along. The players participating in the match are to tee off before those playing along.
      • Either participant/team may request a marker be present during the round.

Procedure of play

      • The teeing ground for each match is determined by the Match Play event.
      • All matches must be completed on the day played (e.g. cannot be carried over to a second day).
      • Once a match has started the match must be completed unless the weather conditions are agreed by both players to be unplayable. If there is not an agreement between the two players, then the match must continue. If the match has been suspended, it is to restart as if the suspension never happened and must still be completed by the specified date.
      • All matches will commence with a flip of a tee on the first tee box. The winner of the previous hole will tee off first on the next hole. All matches must be played inside the prescribed time under the above-mentioned rules.

Handicap Rules

      • All participants must have a valid current Golf Canada Handicap. Handicaps will be checked immediately prior to each round and the current course Handicap will be used.
      • Handicaps current for the day of the match are to be used. Strokes to be given as per the Berwick Heights Score Card.
      • Full Differential: The higher-handicapped player receives the full difference in Playing Handicap between the two players; the lower-handicapped player plays from scratch.
        • Example: A player with a Playing Handicap of 17 receives four strokes from a player with a Playing Handicap of 13. The player receives them on the first four allocated handicap-stroke holes.

Scorecards

      • Scorecards for all matches are to be picked up from the Pro Shop Staff.
      • At the end of a Match, the scorecard is to be signed by both participants and returned to the Pro Shop Staff.
